Cramped shelter

Ottawa Humane Society deluged.

The shelter has taken in more than 340 cats since the beginning of May, including 34 alone on Tuesday, as staff work to find enough cages to house them, the humane society said in a release.

The flood of homeless cats will continue until winter, the OHS said. Though they keep all adoptable cats until homes can be found, wait times cause increased stress that leads to illness.

“Cats simply do not fare well in our cramped shelter, and with more and more cats arriving every day, we need to increase our adoption efforts in order to keep animals healthy,” said director of operations Sharon Miko.
