Old boy

Kawartha Turtle Trauma Centre finds fish hook and line in intestines of runover snapping turtle.

“It is such a shame to see such an ancient beast enduring such misery. To be dying from one problem, only to be hit by a car and injured further, just seems tragic, especially when you realize this is a species at risk. And this old boy could have been around during World War Two. He is a very old turtle.”

The turtle will be sent to the Kawartha Turtle Trauma Centre for recovery and rehabilitation, which is expected to take a year.

“We always name the turtles at the centre, and I think we will call this guy Jean Valjean- he really is one of Les Miserables. I just hope we are able to change that.”
