Beatrice & Virgil displays Yann Martel’s writing brilliance, encapsulated in an odd format. It’s a story about a story about a story. Concepts such as “animal rights” and “the holocaust” are swung around like aimless batons, trying to hit a literary piñata, as we try to objectively digest and connect with Martel’s theme.
