Complete devastation

Atlantic Veterinary College starts Pet Loss Support Line (902-388-0752).

“Unless you’ve had an animal, unless you’ve experienced the passing of an animal or you’ve had that specific bond between you and your pet, people don’t seem to understand it, they don’t necessarily accept it as something that’s as emotional as it is.”

Hoddinott understands how emotional it is. She felt “complete devastation at first” when her family’s 10-year-old dog died just before she started college.

“And still, to this day, I’m upset when I think about it,” the 22-year-old student says.
