Fight back

BC’s Controlled Alien Species Regulation of the Wildlife Act faces resistance.

Jamie Bell, who owns more than 20 monkeys on her property outside Cowichan Lake, says the new laws were slapped together in reaction to the tragic tiger mauling, and lumped with little warning on to responsible pet owners like herself.

And they’re prepared to band together and fight back, she says.

“I’m willing to go to jail for what I believe in,” Bell said. “Many, many, many people are prepared to sue the government.”

The biggest concern, she said, is that thousands of animals, including endangered species, face euthanasia because the government has no plan to relocate non-permitted animals
