Betrayal

Friends of the Toronto Humane Society stage protest.

“We were told there would be no killing of animals without informing the volunteers. We came in Saturday morning to find out six animals were killed that night, some of which we had homes for. We feel betrayed,” said THS volunteer Robert Newman.

The Humane Society is now under the control of the Ontario Society for the Protection of Animals (OSPCA), after a November raid resulted in numerous staff members being charged with cruelty to animals.

In a statement, THS said the six dogs and nineteen cats that were euthanized were chronically ill, displayed aggressive behaviour, or had been at the shelter for an extended period of time.
