Circus protest

Voice for Animals Humane Society protest Shrine Circus in Edmonton.

The circus is in town this weekend with five shows at the arena. The first show happened Friday night, followed by three shows today and one on Sunday. This year’s show features camels, elephants, tigers and orangutans, as well as clowns, high wire and trapeze acts.

Voice for Animals, or V4A, will protest what it calls the Shriners’ “annual display of exploitation of wild animals,” according to a news release they issued Friday.

“The Shriners have again chosen to assume that the citizens of Edmonton don’t care that these wild animals are forced to endure physical, social, health and psychological deprivations during their training, transportation, performances and confinement ‘in storage,’ ” the V4A release states.
