Dog Olympics come to Whistler.

The Incredible Dog Challenge, now in its 12th season and making its first Canadian stop this year, features dogs in events like ski-joring (dogs pulling their handlers on cross-country skis), freestyle flying disc and agility, where dogs race through tunnels and over jumps in a timed course.

If dogs ever do get to participate in the Olympics it will likely be in the agility competition. “An event like [dog] agility is very similar to horse jumping, and has a lot of the same rules,” said Mr. Carson, who runs the Challenge for sponsor Purina, the dog-food company. “The dogs are jumping and weaving through poles. But the closest possibility before [the Olympics] is a world canine championship, and that’s something we’re working on.”
