Saskatchewan’s agriculture minister plans to update farm animal legislation.

Bjornerud said he understands times have been tough for livestock producers, but there’s no excuse for allowing animals to starve.

“I know when a person gets into a financial situation that’s really tough, but you have neighbours, you have the SSPCA (Saskatchewan Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) to help with the situation and try and find some alternative. . . . What I’m saying is there’s always some alternative. Starving your animals is certainly not acceptable.”
