The Toronto Humane Society wants the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair to discontinue their rodeo.

Instead of another letter or a protest, “we’re going to the public, suggesting they go to the fair and tell organizers their objections,” McConachie said.

“The winter fair is a great event, where people can sample food and learn more about pigs and horses and other farm animals,” he stressed.

“But a horse that fell during a harness race at this year’s Calgary Stampede had to be destroyed and another was hurt during another event,” McConachie said. “There’s that risk.”

Rodeos are “exploitive” of animals, he said, including “forcing an animal to buck.”
