Caribou wasted

More than twelve caribou shot, left uneaten outside of Nunavit.

Under Nunavut’s Wildlife Act, it is illegal to waste caribou meat. It is also illegal to hunt caribou with small-calibre rifles in the territory.

No charges have been laid so far, due to a lack of evidence or witnesses, but Harmer said younger hunters may be responsible.

“Much of the wastage is really created by poor hunting practices, probably from a younger generation,” he said.
