OSPCA walk

Teen raises money in Chatham-Kent.

Hailey Butler-Henderson spent nine hours on her 16th birthday Sunday walking from Chatham to Wallaceburg.

The teenager, who requires two crutches to walk, made part of the journey on gravel on Baldoon Road.

Accompanied by her cousin, Savannah Kotter, 14, she managed to raise more than $1,000 in pledges for the Chatham-Kent branch of the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

A cell phone call from Mayor Randy Hope inspired the young women to complete the last several kilometres of the walk.

The mayor intends to present her with a certificate of appreciation on behalf of the municipality.
