All dogs are equal, but some dogs…

Bill 238 makes Manitoba the only province where assaulting a service animal is punishable by law.

The law says “no person shall touch, feed, impede or interfere with a service animal, without lawful excuse or authority.” Breaking this law comes with a maximum fine of $5,000 on first offence, and $10,000 for subsequent offences.

Sharon Blady, MLA for Kirkfield Park, initiated the bill.

“I think a lot of people had misperceptions and thought there was already a law to protect service animals,” said Blady.
